Jean-Louis Mourier attended the School of Applied Arts in Paris, and began his career working as a commercial artist in 1984. In 1987, he drew his first illustrations for Tintin Reporter, which remained unpublished, since the magazine was about to cease publication. On the occasion of an exposition in the Rodin museum, he made a comics biography of the sculptor in 1990, which was published in the information booklet. In Marseille, he met Scotch Arleston, with whom he began the heroic fantasy series 'Les Feux d'Askell' for Soleil in 1993.
