George Clark was born in Oklahoma, and published his first cartoons in the Daily Oklahoman, the Oklahoma News and then the Cleveland Press. He eventually also made animation drawings for 'The Gumps' and illustrations for Collier's, Judge, McCall's and Country Gentleman. After joining the art staff of the Newspaper Enterprise Association, he made his first syndicated cartoon in 1929: 'Side Glances'.
