Franco Caprioli was born in Mompeo, in the province of Rieti, in 1912. After a brief career as a painter, he began working as a comic artist for Il Vittorioso in 1936, and remained a contributor to this magazine for the next three decades. His specialty was adventure stories, and his first creation was 'Gino e Piero'. In the years before World War II, he provided stories like 'Il Mistero del Budda di Giada' and 'Pino il Mozzo'.
