Mario Hernandez grew up in Oxnard, California, as the eldest of four brothers and one sister. He was the first to discover comic books, and he was the initiator of the alternative comic book Love & Rockets, which he launched with his brothers Gilbert and Jaime in 1982. Mario contributed to many of the first issues. His solo comic, 'Brain Capers', was published by Fantagraphics in 1993. He has also contributed to such anthologies as Angela Bocage's Real Girl.
