Robert Hugues was born in Nice, where he also studied architecture at the School of Decorative Arts. He began his career at the publishing house Draguignan in 1948. He was a pupil of Bob Leguay, who gave him artistic control over the series 'Tim l'Audace' at the publishing house Artima in the 1960s.
