Franck Bonnet started out drawing his own comics at age 15, copying his favorite artists. He studied technical drawing to become a civil engineer, and began his career working in an architectural firm. He continued to draw comics in his spare time, and even launched a fanzine in the Troyes area. In 1990 he won first prize at a comic festival in Grenoble for his amateur comic pages. He commenced his collaboration with novelist Didier van Cauwelaert in 1992.
