Born in Genoa, Barbara Canepa studied architecture, and started out working as an advertising artist. In 1996, she began a collaboration with the Walt Disney Company, and illustrated for Disney magazines, books and merchandise. For three years, she was the cover artist of the magazine La Sirenetta and its follow-up Principesse Disney, while also providing interior story art for both magazines.
