John Dirks is the son of comic pioneer Rudolph Dirks, creator of 'The Katzenjammer Kids'. He studied English and Fine Arts at the Yale University of New York, where he got his degree in 1939. He published his illustrations in Collier's and the Saturday Evening Post during this period.
