Summary for collectors in a hurry

BDEnchères recorded the week’s highest result with Albert Uderzo’s Astérix original cover at €1,464,001, above its €150,000–200,000 estimate.
ComicConnect was led by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley’s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns store display illustration at $345,000.
Mandarake Big Web sold Ken Sugimori’s Metamon Pokémon color illustration for ¥19,300,000, about $126,000 or €108,000.
New fixed-price listings included high-value pieces from Nostalgic Investments, Panel Page Art, Romitaman, and several European galleries.
Heritage has a large auction ahead, led by Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott’s Fantastic Four #56 cover, currently at $231,250.

The past week brought close to 1,500 auction-house lots in the tracked data, with more than $3.8 million sold after currency conversion. Marketplace auctions added several hundred more pieces, led by selected results from eBay, Catawiki, and Raremarq.

Mandarake Big Web sold all 120 lots for ¥82,476,700. The top result was Ken Sugimori’s Metamon Pokémon color illustration at ¥19,300,000, about $126,000 or €108,000, followed by Sugimori’s Yadoran Pokémon color illustration at ¥17,700,000, about $115,000 or €99,000. Other high results included Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball Vegeta shikishi at ¥5,500,000, about $36,000 or €31,000, Osamu Tezuka’s Princess Knight Sapphire color shikishi at ¥4,300,000, about $28,000 or €24,000, and Toriyama’s Dragon Ball Son Goku shikishi at ¥3,000,000, about $20,000 or €17,000.

BDEnchères sold 223 of close to 250 lots, totaling €1,683,555. Albert Uderzo’s Astérix original cover sold for €1,464,001, above its €150,000–200,000 estimate. Greg’s Achille Talon original cover followed at €43,921, also above its €12,000–15,000 estimate. Other results included Will’s Tif et Tondu original page at €6,101, Hermann’s Les Tours de Bois-Maury original page at €5,125, and Greg’s two Achille Talon original pages at €4,881.

ComicConnect sold 470 of close to 500 pieces for $1,057,341. Frank Miller and Lynn Varley’s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns store display illustration led the sale at $345,000. Dave Cockrum’s X-Men #98 interior page sold for $27,600, Ethan Van Sciver’s Green Lantern #25 double-page splash for $22,425, Steve Epting’s Captain America #19 cover for $20,700, Bruno Premiani’s Doom Patrol #92 title splash for $18,463, and Jack Kirby’s Fantastic Four #42 interior page for $17,365.

Heritage sold 365 of more than 300 lots for $243,221. Shawn McManus’s Saga of Swamp Thing #32 story page led at $12,500. Jim Mooney’s Action Comics #282 Supergirl page and Jim Starlin’s DC Comics Presents #36 page each sold for $5,000, while George Pérez and Al Vey’s Avengers #14 story page reached $4,500 and Jack Kirby and Mike Royer’s Black Panther #11 story page sold for $4,250.

Catawiki sold 255 of close to 400 lots for €28,936. Patrizio Evangelisti’s Streghe original page led at €1,000, followed by Marc Sleen’s Nero original page at €600 and Patrizio Evangelisti’s Termite Bianca color page at €570. Pierre Seron’s Les Petits Hommes original page sold for €463, while John Bolton’s Bizarre Adventures King Kull page, William Vance’s Bob Morane original page, and Patrizio Evangelisti’s Dylan Dog color drawing did not meet reserve.

Raremarq sold 80 of more than 200 marketplace auction lots for $65,723. Miki Okazaki’s Power Girl All Star Comics #58 artwork sold for $7,000. Alex Ross’s Immortal Hulk #19 painted cover reached $4,050, Toru Terada’s Odin #3 SDCC cover art sold for $4,000, Tula Lotay’s Absolute Batman #24 variant cover for $3,550, and Kendrick Lim’s Amazing Spider-Man #45 published art for $3,100.

eBay, in the tracked highest-sales extract, was led by Carlos Ezquerra’s Starlord #12 original cover at $10,108.50. A George Pérez Fantastic Four commission sold for $4,247.97, a Scott Blair Marisa Tomei original illustration for $1,400, Walt Kelly’s Pogo Sunday strip for $1,298, and a group of Johnny Ryan Prison Pit original pages for $1,136.

Among the other auction houses, Comic Book Auctions ltd sold all 24 lots, led by Ron Turner’s Judge Dredd original page at £2,400, about $3,250 or €2,800. Heritage Europe sold all 38 lots, with Jean-Pierre Gibrat’s Mattéo original illustration at €3,394.50. Finarte sold 121 of 155 lots, led by Alex Kupershmidt’s Disney menu illustration at €300. Anderson & Garland, mycomicshop.com, Auctionet, and several irregular sources closed smaller groups of original art.

Toshio Maeda’s signed La Blue Girl manga page was also active at $305.

Catawiki added a large new auction selection. The higher current bids include Milo Manara’s Borgia original page at €3,000, Hugo Pratt’s Corto Maltese original page at €1,300, Don Heck and Mike Royer’s Ka-Zar splash page at €1,000, Hergé’s Tintin dedication drawing at €1,000, and William Vance’s Bob Morane original page at €900.

Raremarq listed several active auctions and fixed-price pieces. In auctions, Stanley Artgerm Lau and Peach Momoko’s charity collaboration artwork is currently at $9,550, followed by RB White’s Galactus illustration at $1,450, Layne’s Black Cat illustration at $1,220, Alex Ross’s Bionic Man #6 painted cover at $1,070, and Lorenzo Sperlonga’s Zatanna published pin-up at $800. In buy-it-now listings, Riccardo Federici’s Justice League vs. The Dark Knights painting is priced at $15,000, his Invincible Universe: Battle Beast #2 cover at $8,000, and Homare’s Absolute Catwoman #1 cover pencil at $7,000.

Nostalgic Investments listed John Byrne’s Darkseid vs. Galactus: The Hunger cover at $45,000, Sal Buscema’s Avengers #90 splash page at $22,000, John Romita Sr.’s Amazing Spider-Man #108 half splash at $9,500, and John Buscema’s Fantastic Four #122 page at $7,500. Panel Page Art added Billy Graham’s Jungle Action #17 double-page spread at $30,000, Sal Buscema and Bill Sienkiewicz’s Spectacular Spider-Man #221 cover at $25,000, and Jim Starlin and Joe Sinnott’s Mighty World of Marvel #18 cover at $15,000.

Romitaman added Adam Hughes’s Catwoman #59 cover at $22,000, Al Williamson, Frank Frazetta, and Angelo Torres’s Crime Illustrated #3 splash at $12,000, and Mark Bagley and John Dell’s Spider-Man #234 cover at $9,500. BritComicsArt listed Frank Quitely’s World’s Finest #50 cover at $20,000, Tim Sale’s Batman: The Long Halloween Special double-page spread at $3,900, and Jamie Hewlett’s Get the Freebies / Phoo Action page at $3,500.

Galerie Antoine Mathon listed several Yves Chaland pieces, including F.52 page 41 and Spirou page 8B, each at €15,000, plus Il faut toujours qu’il y en ait un… at €12,000. Galerie 9ème Art added Jean-Claude Mézières’s Valérian: Le Pays sans étoile page at €11,000 and Les Habitants du Ciel page 40 at €7,000.

Tavole Originali listed a broad group of Gipi works, led by unastoria page 88 at €3,000 and unastoria page 92 at €2,400. 2DGalleries added Hermann’s Comanche: Furie rebelle artwork at €12,000, Frank Le Gall’s Théodore Poussin: Secrets artwork at €4,800, and Mathieu Bablet’s Shangri-La page 1 at €3,400. Zic et Bul listed a group of François Ravard Nestor Burma pages, including page 71, page 23, and the cover project.

Other new dealer listings included Manuel Sanjulian’s Star Wars: The Original Trilogy painting at €16,000 from Corner4art, Charles Schulz’s Peanuts Christmas strip in an active Nate Sanders auction at $32,000, and Bernie Wrightson’s Master of the Macabre trading card art at €4,250 from Thornbush Art.

Septimus has close to 300 lots scheduled. Featured lots include Juanjo Guarnido’s Les Indes Fourbes original page, estimated at €9,500–11,500, Jacques Martin’s Alix: La Griffe Noire page, estimated at €8,000–10,000, Enki Bilal’s La Ville qui n’existait pas page, estimated at €8,000–10,000, and Dany’s Olivier Rameau original cover, estimated at €6,000–8,000.
