Ronald McDonald and Friends Nautical-Themed Mural Drawings by Wes Cook Original Art Group of 2 (McDonald's/Setmakers, 1980). Ronald McDonald and the Gobblins keep a sharp eye out for the distant shores of McDonaldland from the deck of their ship, in these stirring nautical wall mural designs by artist and Setmakers Creative director Wes Cook. Mr. Cook's artistic career began in motion picture scenery painting and eventually led to theme park design as a Disney imagineer. During the '70s and early '80s, he was the artistic mastermind behind the mythical world of McDonaldland, and here are two magnificent pencil renderings drawn by him for a McDonald's restaurant wall mural. Both are 10" x 26" images on 17.5" x 33" vellum. The first is a design featuring Ronald and a crew of Gobblins. This incredibly detailed drawing is signed by the artist, and underneath the artwork is a handwritten working title, scale measurements, and it is dated April 1, 1980, with a second Wes Cook signature. A second revised design, incorporating the addition of Captain Crook and Mayor McCheese, is included in this lot. In the second design, Ronald is simply outlined in this scene, while the rest of the other characters are drawn in detail. It too has the title and scale information beneath the image and is dated April 4, 1980. Both pieces show minor handling and edge wear with a small half-inch square piece of paper from the top right edge missing on the secondary drawings. Condition for both is Very Good.

Kwan -- Western Theme" is handwritten beneath the art, plus store location and job number; it's dated March 6, 1979, and it is signed by the artist.
