Gaar Williams Something Ought To be Done about This Daily Comic Strip Original Art, dated 9-22-34 (Chicago Tribune, 1934) Williams usually worked in single-panel format, but now and again he would demonstrate his mastery of sequential continuity -- as in this brisk tale of a rebellious dog and its overbearing keeper. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 13" square. Moderate age-toning, more pronounced at edges. Very Good condition.

Seymour Reit Fight Comics #17 Complete 5-Page Story Strut Warren Original Art (Fiction House Publ., 1942). Fight Comics, an anthology dedicated to the Allied war effort, borrowed a riff or two from Timely Comics' (pre-Marvel) Captain America -- not only with a leading character called Super-American, but also by depicting backup hero Strut Warren as a hapless schlub (like a goofier Steve Rogers) who becomes an unstoppable Axis-buster. The tone is comical, but the heroism is solid. Studio boss S.M. "Jerry" Iger kept the Eisner & Iger logotype (upper right) in use long after co-founder Will Eisner had struck out on his own. Ink over graphite with painted white corrections on Bristol board. Image area, 13" x 18". Moderate age-toning. Excellent condition.

Smilby (Francis Wilford-Smith) Playboy Single Panel Gag Illustrations Original Art Group of 2 (HMH Publishing, c. 1980s). "For the last time - I am not going as a Femlin" A self-referential Playboy cartoon, as the Femlin adorned the "Party Jokes" page for decades. A second included gag illustration shows a cowboy making himself "Home, home on the range", with a punchline that reads "No ma'am, the badlands lie a little further ahead - these here are still the mildly-naughty lands." Herb Trimpe - Unpublished Conan Pages 1-6 and Complete 12-Page Story Preliminary Artwork Original Art Group of 18 (Marvel, c. 1990s). Herb Trimpe had completed the pencils on all 12 pages of the story "His Father's Son!", when he was ask to "draw like Liefeld" as that was what was selling best at the time. The result is nothing short of spectacular, as a well-entrenched long-time artist with his own style can seemingly flip a switch and draw in a completely different style... and do it better! This group contains all 12 of the original pure graphite pencils on Duotone board, and in addition, Pages 1-6 of the re-worked re-Imaged artwork. It really strikes us as a cross between Rob Liefeld and Marc Silvestri. Simply fascinating to compare those first six pages against their counterparts. Trimpe inked and applied the Duotone chemical shading on those pages. Panel 1 on the inked page is an original art paste-up, and several of the text panels are paste-ups as well. In Excellent condition.
