Will Eisner PS The Preventive Maintenance Monthly #214 Wraparound Cover Preliminary Artwork Original Art (Dept. of the Army/LOGSA, 1970). At the beginning of the Korean War, the US Army contacted and hired Eisner to a new publication that again combined instructional information and comic book graphics to engage and educate soldiers. The result was a fantastic, and often overlooked, era of Will Eisner art. The armored troop carried on the front cover is original art on onionskin paste-up. The bus on the back cover is a stat paste-up. The logo is a stat paste-up as well. Fred Thomas Fred Fumble and Good Ol' Bo Tryout Daily Comic Strips Preliminary Original Art (c. 1960s-70s). Thomas sought to outgrow his successful line of one-shot gag 'toons and the single-panel Long Shots strip, and so he concocted Fred Fumble and Good Ol' Bo as sustained-narrative presentations. Fred Fumble was to have been a sporting feature (familiar territory for Thomas), while Good Ol' Bo concerned a Hobo, offering cynical observations on polite society. The gags are inventive and sarcastic In these pencils-only pilot-strip breakdowns. The strips never made it past the conceptual stages, but the humor shines through. The page is composed of individual panels, pasted into place in the customary three-tier grid form (half of a Sunday-newspaper page), with seams as a natural consequence. Art has been extended onto the support board in some cases. Light overall toning and a stripped in text correction in Panel 4. In Very Good condition. From the Ray Edw Collection.

Roy Fox Then and Now Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 5 (Chicago Tribune, 1958-1971). We see a good many originals from Fox's teenagers comic, Aggie Mack, but examples of his Then and Now -- a procession of ironic gags -- are comparatively scarce. The humor is drawn from simple misunderstandings that escalate into large problems. The feature also is a rare example of the vertical-layout format in daily strips.
