This story, part of Jaime's award-winning "Locas" series, was featured in the Love and Rockets seven issue spin-off miniseries, Penny Century. The artwork is typically beautiful, and is in ink and graphite on Bristol board, with an average image area of 8" x 13". The pages are all in Excellent condition.

Billy DeBeck Barney Google Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 9-15-35 (King Features Syndicate, 1935). One of the earliest Barney Google Sundays featuring Snuffy Smith that we've seen to date! It dates from about a year after Snuffy was introduced into the cast, several years before his name would actually be added to the strip. It didn't take long for Snuffy and his mountain kin to push Barney out and dominate the action, and in this choice Sunday, our diminutive hero gets the "raw end" of the deal. The art is in ink over graphite on two conjoined pieces of Bristol board, with an image area of 20.5" x 16.25". There is light toning; otherwise, the condition is Excellent.

This page from the Marv Wolfman story "Nightmare!" features Raven, Terra, Changeling, Cyborg, and Starfire fighting against the Brotherhood of Evil members Houngan, Plasmus, and Phobia. The comic was at its height at the time, and rivaled Marvel's X-Men as most popular comic book in the US. This page was created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Moisture rippling on the left side. There is a stain in the lower right, just into the last panel, and there are red stains in Panel 6. Signed by Romeo Tanghal. In Very Good condition.

A delightful pairing of large-scale Sunday funnies. A The Captain and the Kids strip and a Hawkshaw the Detective strip (a Sherlock Holmes spoof) in which Gus Mager, one of the chief architects of comic-strip design, is emulating the near-Cubist style of his friend Clifford Sterrett of Polly and Her Pals. This strip features beautiful figure drawings of people of all ages -- Frank Godwin was a master pen artist. A fake film crew tried to evade discovery by Detective Baker in this ink, Zipatone, and blue wash over graphite on Bristol board episode. All but one small piece of Zipatone have fallen off and are missing, leaving some discolored glue residue behind. The image area is 18.5" x 5.5", and the art is in Very Good condition.

It was then taped into an inset cut into a full-size sheet of Bristol board. After the fact, someone created low-res scans of the logo and corner box from the published box and affixed them directly to the original art. in Very Good condition.

This is definitely an eye-popping piece by Stan Goldberg, who was illustrating many of Marvel Comics' teen-comedy books at the time, and would also go on to become one of the main Archie Comics artists in the 1980-90s. A piece of art this lovely should be reprinted... and it was... twice more! It appeared May-1968 issue of Fun House Comedy, and also in the May-1975 issue of Joker (V23#35). Barbarella Illustration Original Art (1975). Jane Fonda in one of her most famous roles. Based on a publicity still, she is seen here in one of the sci-fi costumes designed by Paco Rabanne. Dave Graue Alley Oop Preliminary Original Comic-Strip Art dated 5-19-78 and 12-9-78 Group of 2 (Newspaper Enterprise Association, 1978). Graue, longtime assistant on V.T. Hamlin's cavemen-and-dinosaurs feature Alley Oop, had taken charge of the strip by increments since 1971, during Hamlin's gradual retirement. A solo-Graue Oop is virtually identical to the Hamlin style, as a consequence of their extended affiliation. These conceptual pieces capture well the strip's essence of suspense and adventure, mingled with a comical attitude. Graphite on vellum. Image areas, 8" x 6" and 16" x 6". Larger piece is inscribed. Morris Weiss Mickey Finn Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 2 (McNaught, 1972-76). A full year after the death of series creator Lank Leonard, Morris Weiss finally began signing his own name to the series he had been drawing for a few years already. Weiss began as Leonard's assistant just a month after the series began in 1936 and worked with him until 1943. In 1960, Weiss returned and slowly moved from assisting to completely ghosting the strip as Leonard went into semi-retirement in 1968. Produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board with image areas of approximately 16.5" x 4.75", these two strips are dated 3-4-72 and 5-20-76. Both are in Excellent condition.

The upper tier contains a nifty design-homage to Will Eisner, Powell's former cartoon-studio boss. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 12.5" x 18.5". F. C. Yohn The Butler's Story Spot Illustration Original Art (Charles Scribner's Sons, 1909). A spot illustration for Arthur C. Train's novel of the reflections, observations, and experience of Mr. Peter Ridges. The novel's full title is much longer, but it is colloquially known as simply The Butler's Story. This is from the fifth installment, possibly from a magazine serialization. Well-known illustrator Frederick Coffay Yohn handled this piece of art superbly in grey tone goauche on 21.75" x 22" illustration board, with an image area of 15" x 16". There is glue residue and matting marks in the margins from a previous framing. The toned art is in Very Good condition and signed in the image area.

As always, Mr. Hill's ability to capture real-life expressions and marry them with true-life comedy is stunning. The beauty in the ordinary, the lovely in the grotesque, it's easy to see how this strip inspired other cartoonists such as Drew Friedman. This Sunday was created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 17.5" x 24". Hill's stipple technique and in high effect on this great piece. All text is stat paste-up. There is glue residue near many of the paste-up pieces on the toned board. The title is missing, as is caption #9. In Very Good condition.

Rich Larson turned in a lovely and delicate pure graphite work with a bat-motif, which he and his partner Steve Fastner turned into a lovely gouache painted work. Both are included. Men's cartoonist Bill Hoest produced a mixed media piece on illustration board. It has the look of being published sometime in the 1960-70s, and with some water damage, it is in Very Good condition. There are three pure graphite works (one by Ray Riber, another by Renato Camilo, and an unknown artist), and two color works (by unknown artists). Also included are three prints signed by Alex Miranda (one in color, two in grey tone), and a color cover proof for a book titled Exotic Fantasy #1 (by an unknown artist). Frank Robbins Scorchy Smith Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 4-30 (Associated Press Syndicate, undated). A daily titled "Ultimatum", from Scorchy's most remarkable artist, next to the original artist, Noel Sickles. The date on this strip is March 30, but the year is uncertain. Robbins began working on this strip in 1939, and continued until 1944, when he began Johnny Hazard. The art area measures 21" x 5" and aside from some some pinholes, toning, and handling wear, it is in Very Good condition.

Red began his life on the comics page in Bronc Peeler, a Sunday strip by Fred Harman, and then made his own newspaper debut in 1938. This daily has an ink over graphite on Bristol board image area of 22" x 6", and the art is in Very Good condition, with edge toning, a discolored syndicate strip, and handling wear on the edges.

Michael H. Price Bloody Visions Vol. 1: Theodore Bundy Portrait Original Art (Shel-Tone Publ. & Cremo Studios, 1991). The Serial Killer Trading-Card Controversy of the 1990s originated with Price's three-volume set of true-crime folios, reproduced in miniature collector-card format. The much larger original portraits are well represented in this intense stipple-and-crayon portrait of one of the most reprehensible subjects. Price's background as a police suspect-sketch artist and courtroom portraitist serves well in this context. Ink, crayon, and painted white highlights over graphite on Bristol board. We pick up today's adventure with Bullwinkle (a talking moose) flying in a spaceship with two moon men. (Hey, it's a comic strip... it could happen.) Cloyd may not be a fan of Rocky the Flying Squirrel, but there sure are fans of Cloyd and Gidney, the Moon Men. A great strip created in ink and Zipatone over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 17" x 4.75". Signed in the image area. There is a rusty paperclip stain in the top edge, just into the image area. There is also just a bit of soiling on Cloyd's eyes in the last panel. In Very Good condition.

Stephen Fabian Almuric Portfolio Plate #14 Original Art (Jonathan Bacon Publ., 1977). The Conan-like hero Esau Cairn makes an ideal subject for Fabian's combination of bold, virile composition and delicate brush-and-crayon work. The monster-at-large here might be an ancestor of all those Starship Troopers bugs. The influence of Weird Tales magazine's Virgil Finlay is patent, but then so is Fabian's interpretive originality. The Robert E. Howard-based Almuric Portfolio is a rarity, itself, at only 350 copies known to have been printed, so that condition places its original art among the rarest of the rare. Ink and crayon over graphite on pebble-grained Coquille board. Image area, 7.5" x 10.5". Excellent condition. From the Ethan Roberts Estate Collection.

The card is accompanied by a bonus piece of memorabilia, a 14" x 9.5" laserprint reproduction of a storefront collage, also signed by Bakshi. Sam Rosen Not Brand Echh #11 Original Lettering for Splash Page (Marvel Comics, 1968). Hand-lettering master Rosen, a little-acknowledged hero of the Marvel bullpen, is front-and-center on this fragmentary page. The art itself is missing, barring narrow marginal portions at left and right. The story had been written as a parody of the 1933 movie King Kong. The piece had a troubled production history, inasmuch as supervising editor Stan Lee and writer Roy Thomas disliked Tom Sutton's artwork and called in Marie Severin to re-draw significant portions. So that's what's absent. Meanwhile, Rosen's lettering really stands out. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 10" x 15". Other than the vacant patch, in Good condition.
