Greg Guler and Bill Neville Americomics Special #1 Story Page 20 Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, and Nightshade Original Art (AC Comics, 1983). A bit of comics' history. Bill Black licensed and published these Charlton Comics heroes (along with the Question) as the "Sentinels of Justice" in this one issue. But DC Comics purchased these characters from the failing Charlton Comics. Alan Moore originally intended on using them in Watchmen. However, DC decided they didn't want Moore to use the characters so he created thinly veiled versions of them, and DC then fully incorporated the original Charlton heroes into the DCU with Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1985. Although Greg Guler is credited at pencils/inks/letters in the book, the back of this page is stamped as being inked and lettered by Bill Neville. Neville was a sometimes-contributor to AC Comics. The page is in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". In Excellent condition.

Pete Morisi Comic Cavalcade Weekly Unpublished Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt Story Page 2 Original Art (DC, c. 1983). In 1983, DC Comics acquired the Charlton Comics "Action Heroes" characters. DC Editor Dick Giordano had worked with these characters at Charlton and wanted to showcase them at DC. He came up with the idea of a weekly comic book similar to a Sunday funnies section, with two-page features per character. As Pete Morisi still owned the rights to Thunderbolt, an agreement was reached to include his character in the series. Alternatively known as Blockbuster, the title was changed to Comic Cavalcade Weekly to keep the copyright on on of DC's Golden Age comic titles. Sadly, it went unpublished. A.S. Daggy Life Magazine Complete 6-Page Cartoon Story Original Art (Life Publ., 1894).... (Total: 6 Original Art)
A.S. Daggy Life Magazine Complete 6-Page Cartoon Story Original Art (Life Publ., 1894). Daggy ranks among the inventors of comics narrative, what with his fondness for relating wordless stories in sequential panels, one per page. He also was among the first to exploit the goofy image of the grinning halfwit who would evolve into MAD Magazine's mascot, Alfred E. Neuman. (Check out that full-face shot on the first page of this grouping.) The story, compact and hilarious, involves a careless bicyclist, a hip-flask, and a snake. And yes, Life once was a humor magazine in the vein of Puck and Judge -- percursors of MAD. Ink over graphite on heavyweight Bristol board. Image area, 7" x 5". Created in ink over graphite and blue pencil on DC Bristol board. The art is edge-to-edge, and then some... as there is an additional Conte crayon and ink image (over blue pencil) on a section of coquille board affixed to the top of the page that runs off the top. Orson Byron Lowell Conceptual Drawings Original Art (c. 1920s).... (Total: 22 Original Art)
Orson Byron Lowell Conceptual Drawings Original Art (c. 1920s). As prolific as his published output was during the first half of the last century, Lowell cranked out many times that volume in preliminary miniature pieces. Here is a splendid suite of gridwork sketches, roughed out in fairly detailed pencil-strokes. The grids (in orange ink) served to compartmentalize the images into sectors, in preparation for their enlargement to fully sized, finished art. These would have served such markets as Life (in its early years as a satiric title), Cosmopolitan (as a literary journal), and The Saturday Evening Post. Though obscured by the passage of time, Lowell made something of a posthumous comeback in 2002 with a retrospective of his work at Massachusetts' Norman Rockwell Museum. Graphite and ink grids on bond paper. General image area, 2.5" x 3" to 5.5" x 4". Moderate toning, with occasional nicked corners. Excellent condition.

Master advertising designer Church invented a drawing style from the influences of Art Deco architecture and cartoon illustration. This unique example touts the services of an Arizona-based auto-repair shop -- designed to stand out from a newspaper page, even in a tiny published size. The density of the solid blacks is astonishing: One can see the pen-strokes, even in the larger hand-lettering areas where another artist might have used a brush. A bonus-piece is a loose fragment of additional lettering, consistent with the circular contours. Positively radiant. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 7.5" x 7.5".
